Series 1 - 1990
This was the first set produced in the Hasbro line. The original advert for this series, produced for the WWF magazine, shows the figures as below except the Hulk Hogan figure, which has a different font on its t-shirt. The images below show the WWF magazine advert and a Toys-r-us advert for Series 1.
Series 2 - 1991
The catalogue images below show mainly Series 2 figures.
Summerslam Re-releases - all duplicates
These figures all came with a trading card inside the bubble.
Series 3 - 1992
A catalogue image advertising this series shows some slight variations in two figures. The image shows the Ultimate Warrior with different face paint, with yellow around the edges, rather than the purple that the actual figure has. The image also shows an early prototype of the Texas Tornado figure which shows red and white tassels on his boots rather than the all red tassels that the actual figure had.
Series 4 - 1992
Again, an ad prior to the release of these figures showed a prototype of of the Bret Hart figure with silver and pink glasses rather than the actual pink glasses the figure came with.
Series 5 - 1993
The 1993 Toy Fair catalogue showed prototype images of these figures. These showed the Mountie with a red cattle prod (he actually came with a black one) and Virgil without his name on his tights. Skinner was also shown with a brown shirt rather than the green one which he came with.
Series 6 - 1993
The Toy Fair catalogue also showed prototypes that would be different by the time the figures were released. For example, the Berzerker was advertised without his robe and Tatanka was shown with blue markings on his leg. The WWF Magazine advert below also shows the Tatanka figure with blue markings on the side of his legs.
Series 7 - 1993
The Toy Fair catalogue showed variations in this series too. Shawn Michaels was shown with a different move whilst Owen Hart is shown with less baggy trousers. The WWF Magazine also shows the Shawn Michaels prototype that was not released.
Series 8 - 1994
Series 9 - 1994
The prototype images from the Hasbro Toy Fair catalogue show some changes including Doink with different attire, slightly different attire on Rick Steiner and different boots, and the unreleased Brutus Beefcake figure, possibly due to him being released around the time of the release of the figures. A duplicate of Tatanka was included instead. The advert from the WWF Magazine shows the correct assortment.
Series 10 - 1994
Series 11 - 1994
Tag Teams
Bushwhackers, Rockers and Demolition - 1991
LOD and Nasty Boys - 1992
A very famous Toys R Us from 1991 showed the famous Rhythm and Blues Greg Valentine figure that was never officially released. Again, the prototype of this figure was recently purchased by Zack Ryder. It is likely that the figure was never released due to the team splitting up prior to the released of the figures. The same figure but in traditional attire and hair colouring was released as part of Series 3. The image to the right is from a catalogue advertising Hasbro figures.
Funskool India Carding - all duplicates
These figures were India exclusives, containing stickers in the bubble. The quality of the carding and bubble was much reduced compared to the American versions.
Exclusive Figures
The JC Penney advert below shows a green-trunked Randy Savage, which was unreleased and recently was bought by Zack Ryder who is notorious for his Hasbro collection. The Silvervision advert adds credence to the rumours that there were two different mailaway Hogan's sent to UK fans. It was reported that the initial wave of mailaway figures had the Hogan slam figure and the Hogan Hug figure pictured below was the second wave. It is also rumoured that there was an exclusive bagged Ultimate Warrior figure which came with a UK ring and a bagged Savage, the same that came with the JC Penney ring. The final advert I don't believe was ever released and was shared by Wrestlelord on wfigs forums. It shows Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels figures being advertised as mailaways. It looks like the Series 10 new figures, certainly of Shawn Michaels, so maybe they were down for exclusives to begin with and might explain why two different Ramon and Michaels figures were released in Series 10.
